Google Search Promotion

19 June 2005

SEO company’s are wandering around dishing out information on how to promote your site in Google’s obscure rankings system (and other engines). These companys, for the most part, are offering advice on systems that most competent web designers can already take care of.

Some company offer a more unwholesome approach to company to promote their site. They sell “links”. WHat happens is that a company’s executives see this as an easy way of promoting their company’s website. The problem with this is that the links that appear are so sudden that Google and other search engines can only help but be suspicious. A “normal” site has a more organic growth in the number of links to it. With these link-sellers, one day your site has few links pointed to it, the next the search engines find that there are 2,000 to 20,000 links pointed at your site.

Don’t add links too quickly or all from one or two sources.
