RPC for Textpattern

4 June 2006

It’s quite awesome. Kusor just released the support files for XML-RPC from textpattern.

What this means is that you can now use programs like Mars Edit, Ecto, and Zoundry to edit and manage posts from your computer. Then, when you’re ready, you can click to publish them to your site.

Right now, this is kind of a kludge, as most of these applications support many other CMSes, Textpattern not being one of them. So, when you choose the type of software that you are using, Kusor says that MovableType is preferable.

There are a few issues with using the textpattern implementation that I am experiencing with MarsEdit right now.

  1. An article is not set to the categories you set it to when it’s posted.
  2. Comments are not properly set to “open” or “close”.

Once these two issues are passed, I believe that it will be incredibly easy to build informational sites and magazine style sites for clients and then just hand it off to them by installing and configuring a desktop client once. Then they can post and edit pages or articles to their heart’s content.

An Aside: You need to put the section that you want to post the articles to in the “Blog ID” field.
